We just want to start by saying thank you to everyone for all their support so far on social media in just a few short days - we appreciate you all!
I thought I'd take this opportunity to introduce Ruru & Bars and my experience for those who don't know me personally.
First, I know the name Ruru (pronounced Roo Roo) & Bars is a little strange - it started as a joke and it really grew on me. These are my dogs nicknames. We have two German Shepherd x Husky boys named Ares and Mars. Mars has several nicknames including Mars Bars and Bars. We started calling Ares Ruru because his barks sound like Rurururu.
As for myself, I graduated from Mount Royal University in June 2014 with my Bachelor's of Communications in Information Design.
It took over 300 job applications, a few brief marketing and graphic design positions for me to discover my first real position at 8020 Connect as Client Communications & Social Media Specialist.
When I graduated university, I was really set on finding a corporate position where I could learn a set of skills that had been evenly structured, where someone could help me learn everything I needed to know and I could learn and excel at every aspect. A company where their communications department was a fine-tuned machine and I could just jump in and watch it all work. In fact, social media wasn't even in my top ten of skills I wanted to learn, let alone being an entrepreneur.
8020 Connect was not that. But it was exactly what I needed and everything I didn't know I wanted. I started with them in April 2016. We are a small start up team, and we have some really amazing people on board, and we are still growing. Come March, I moved from Salaried Employee to contractor, so I still handle a few of Darren's accounts and he really encouraged me, throughout the tough times a start up can face, to really follow this idea to become my own boss.
I can honestly say I never thought this would happen. In the last 6 months of being on my own, gaining my own clients, and jumping in feet first, I have learned an incredible amount and I really love what I'm doing.
In March, Creative Nobility reached out to me (can you say perfect timing?) to see if I was interested in a position and working with Rebecca has been fantastic.
Now, the sky's the limit!
